It's been a long time since I've seen 10th ounce gold Eagles in the catalog. Haven't seen them anywhere else online either. Has the mint not started pressing the 2009 model yet or is there some other reason they're not around?

I don't believe that they have started minting them yet.

This message shows up on their website for silver eagles:

Quote:
Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .”

The United States Mint will resume the American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coin Programs once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products.

So far this year the mint has sold 252,500 1 oz gold eagles. That's more than they sold in either 2006 or 2007, and a third of the 2008 total. (in only a little over 2 months). Public demand seems to be dictating what they mint.

Yeah, you're not going to see frac gold or buffalo's from the mint any time soon, maybe not this year at all. They can't even get their flag ship UHRDE off the ground.

The mint will be putting the fractional gold bullion coins out on Dec. 3, 2009.
